There is no denying that people enjoy sleeping. Sleep is where people get their energy to prepare them for a long day’s work. Depriving one’s sleep is a grave offense which a lot of people take seriously.

A lack of sleep can lead to serious health problems. This fact is the main reason why people never turn down an opportunity to have a well-deserved rest.

According to statistics, the average person sleeps for one-third of their lives. For example, if a person lives to be about 75 years old, then he or she has slept for a total of 25 years.

Another surprising fact about sleep is that this is the phase in which the body regenerates and builds up muscle. Contrary to this belief, muscle mass isn’t made through excessive weight lifting or gym sessions but by proper rest periods in between exercise.

During sleep, the body shuts down and sends signals to the cells to help aid in repairing and restoring damaged muscles.

All of those facts mentioned above only show how important sleep is for a lot of people. However, a lot of individuals go to bed and wake up without reaping its full benefits.

Certain factors such as the environment, noise, sleeping conditions, and a lot more all contribute to the reason as to why an individual won’t get all the advantages of sleep.

Regarding sleeping conditions, people prefer to sleep on anything they feel comfortable. Whether it’s a leather lounge, a soft mattress, a bed, or even just a woven mat, a person can find all the joy, happiness, and rest they can expect once they get to lay down.

However, those materials also lie hidden dangers. Hazards that are barely seen by the naked eye.

The dangers of Bedbugs


These dangers are tiny living organisms also known as bed bugs. These small insects prefer to live in beds, mattresses, or any other place in which a larger body would lay down. Bites from these insects can cause rashes and infection.

For most bedridden patients or clients, bed bugs can cause serious health problems because their bites can cause infection if left untreated. The hallmark signs of a bed bug bite include finding blood spots on a clean bed sheet and rashes.

Bites are common in parts of the body, mostly exposed to the bed. These are the arms, neck, face, legs, and hands. These marks are red and form a zigzag pattern.  People will have different reactions to the bites. Some individuals report itchiness while others don’t have any reactions at all.

Although bed bugs show no ability to transmit diseases to humans, they have been known to carry disease. Some species have been even spotted carrying MRSA or Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus which is a bacteria that causes a lot of types of infections. This particular bacteria is also resistant to most antibiotics.

Preventing the Spread of Bed Bugs

To avoid the uncertainty when it comes to transmission and disease, people should always opt to contact pest control services. Here are some more ways to control the infestation of bed bugs at home.

  • Clean all linen, beddings, blankets, and clothing thoroughly. Use hot water and use the highest settings on the dryer. Extreme temperatures kill bed bugs and their eggs.
  • Before using a vacuum, be sure to use a stiff brush when scrubbing mattresses, carpets, and other surfaces where bed bugs are likely to live. Scrubbing can also kill bed bugs and loosen their eggs from the cloth.
  • Use a vacuum to clean areas where a person sleeps or stays. Afterward, place the vacuum bag in an airtight plastic bag to ensure that the bed bugs don’t crawl out and make their way back into the house.
  • Avoid eating on the bed. Although it may sound romantic, food crumbs and other clutter can attract a lot of insects and other unwanted creepy crawlies.
  • Part ways with a mattress if it’s too infested with bugs, rather than trying to salvage the item. Sometimes, an infestation is too much, and the only way to alleviate it is by entirely discarding the mattress.


Sleep is a gift to every hard working person everywhere. Although a lot of individuals see it as a reward for a hard day’s work, sleep is a lot more. In fact, resting brings a lot of benefits to the human body.

To function correctly, a human has to sleep at least 7-8 hours a day. In this state of rest, the body begins to regenerate and repair any damage done by strenuous activities throughout the day. However, just getting enough hours for sleep sometimes isn’t enough for most people.

It is a terrifying fact that people wake up without even getting the benefits of a proper sleep. A lot of factors such as the environment, ventilation, and other things can significantly affect sleep. Even the smallest insects such as bed bugs can bring a threat to the health of a person.


Bed bugs are bloodsuckers which mean they feast on the blood of their host. Through their feeding methods, a certain disease may get transmitted to a human being.

A lot of steps should be made such as cleaning, washing, and vacuuming to prevent the spread of bed bugs and to ensure a good night’s sleep.
