Discovered over 10,000 years ago by French wine makers, vinegar has been used by wise homemakers through the years.
It is time to share these hints it with everyone you know. While scientists have not done actual research on all of these tips, word of mouth has passed them along with many positive stories.
Those who have tried say that vinegar is the best thing in your cupboard for household cleaning, weed killing, and even keeping your dog free of fleas, ticks and doggy odor!
Here are just a few of the many suggestions from a variety of sources.
Window cleaning. Clean with a mixture of equal parts of white vinegar and water and then dry with a soft cloth
No wax floors. One half cup white vinegar to 1 Gallon of water
Inside your refrigerator. Equal parts of white vinegar and water will clean and freshen
Carpet stains. Use a mixture of 1 teaspoon of liquid detergent and 1 teaspoon of white vinegar in a pan of lukewarm water to remove most non-oily stains. Using a soft brush or towel to rub and then rinsing with clean water seems to be quite effective; though stubborn stains many need a repeat.
Garbage disposal. This unique tip to clean your disposal starts with making vinegar cubes in your ice cube trays with 1 cup vinegar and water to fill the tray. When they are frozen, just run them through the disposal and flush with clean water.
Microwave. Fill a microwave safe container with 1 Cup of water and a quarter cup of white vinegar and bring it to a boil in the microwave to loosen dried food and also deodorize.
Coffeemakers. Coffeemaker manufacturers have long had cleaning instructions included with new coffeemakers about using vinegar to clean out the built up mineral deposits from hard water, so follow each manufacturer’s instructions on how to clean your appliance.
Weeds and grass in sidewalk cracks. A safe weed killer for the environment and your pets, white vinegar works! Just spray full strength on any unwanted grass and weeds. You many need to repeat a few times to kill the roots as well.
Pets. Adding a teaspoon of white vinegar to each quart of drinking water for a 40 lb. dog will help keep fleas and ticks off of your animal. To get rid of shampoo residue and doggy odor, just add 1 cup of white vinegar to 2 gallons of the final rinse water when bathing your dog.
Jewelry cleaner. Those who have solid gold jewelry claim that soaking your gold in 100% apple cider vinegar for 15 minutes is an excellent way to clean it!
Paint brushes. It is claimed that hardened paint brushes can be softened with 100% hot white distilled vinegar and then washing in hot soapy water.
