A Netflix Original Movie directed by Susanne Bier, “Bird Box” features the beautiful Sandra Bullocks who executes her part effortlessly as the Heroine “Marjorie”. The movie is based on the 2014 book of the same title by Josh Malerman.
Some other characters in the movie are Trevante Rhodes, Jacki Weaver, John Malkovich, Sarah Paulson.
The movie is in some kind of post-apocalyptic settings where, if I may say so myself, death is not accompanied by the fear of it(death). This is because some strange entity or phenomenon causes people to take their own life if it is looked upon.
I know. It is simple. Look at the weird creature(assuming its even a creature) and the next second; you just want to kill yourself. What’s worse, it’s like you’re imbued with ideas of the worst possible ways to quickly and effectively end your life.
The movie begins with a scene showing Marjorie and her two kids, boy and girl(that’s actually their names- Boy and Girl), on a journey through a dangerous and treacherous river on a boat.
This two-day journey was to lead them to a Sanctuary where they will be safe from this supposed entity that leaves death in its wake. And what’s worse, the journey had to be undertaken while wearing blindfolds
” Bird Cage”, the movie recounts the series of events that led to the “almost end” of the world as we know it, beginning from the very first news of mass suicide that was happening worldwide and how fast this tragedy engulfed the entire world leaving only a few survivors.
Sure, the movie broke the internet, but not in an “oh my God, that was an amazing movie” kind of way. Several memes were made to portray and capture the simplicity and sheer illogicality of the film.
I had a lot of problems with the movie. A lot of it did not make sense to me.
WHAT IN GOD’S NAME IS THIS ‘MYSTERIOUS’ CREATURE?
We know for sure that there was some kind of mystery monster that forces people to lose control of their minds and instantly kill themselves violently.
You’d expect that at some point, we would be told what these creatures are, where they came from and how they can unravel minds that look upon them.
But nothing was explained — no hint, whatsoever.
I would call B.S, but this unidentified, unknown and unnamed “force” kind of added an edge to the movie. Maybe.
THE UNNAMED UNSEEN MONSTER AFFECTS MENTALLY UNSTABLE PEOPLE DIFFERENTLY.
I think everyone or most people enjoy a good suspenseful movie. It heralds guesses, theories and opinions from viewers as to the direction the writer is steering the movie towards.
Bird box gave me almost nothing tangible to ponder on.
Why were the mental cases affected differently?. The effect of seeing this mystery monster doesn’t make them attempt suicide. No. Instead, it registers as the “most beautiful” thing they had ever seen. This pulled them into convincing or rather ‘forcing’ the sane to open their eyes and ‘look’.
Oh well. Sucks to be of sound mind!
