Amazing Uses of Vinegar Around the House

Vinegar in Laundry

You probably all have vinegar in your house for cooking. Did you know that vinegar has tons of other uses around the home?

Vinegar serves as a great scum and mineral deposit remover, all purpose cleaner and deodorizer. Most household uses of vinegar call for white vinegar.

Drain Cleaner

If you have a clogged drain, clear out as much standing water as possible. Then place a cup of baking soda in the sink. Add a cup of vinegar. Place the stopper in the drain and let sit for a half hour.

When this time has passed remove the plug and pour a kettle of hot water on top of this mixture.  If there is water in the drain when you do this double the baking soda and vinegar and the time left standing.  Keep pouring in hot water until the drain is clear.

Meat Tenderizer

Use apple vinegar, balsamic or just white household vinegar and use as you would any other tenderizer. It works because it contains acid and it will soften the muscles of the meat.

Weed Killer

Vinegar works great as a weed killer because it has 5% acetic acid in it. Place it in a spray bottle and spray the weeds when it is not supposed to rain for the next 24 hours so the vinegar won’t wash away.

Some people add water and detergent to this mix, you don’t need to, but it is up to you. Just be aware that it works better without water.

Hardwood Floor Cleaner

Sweep or vacuum the floor to remove as much dirt and dust as possible, Mix one gallon of water with one half cup of vinegar and 1 tablespoon of Castille soap, or instead of the soap, add 10 drops of peppermint extract.

Toothache Remedy

Soak a cotton ball with warm apple cider vinegar and hold in place. If you are desperate and you only have white  vinegar, try this instead.

Bed wetting Stain

Mix one part vinegar to two parts dish washing liquid.  Blot up as much of the urine as possible using paper towels.

Take the vinegar mixture and dab over the area generously and let it stand for 30 minutes.  Take a wet sponge and wipe up as much of the soap as possible.  Spray with corn starch and let sit for several hours and vacuum.

Take a cotton ball and soak it with vinegar. Blot your skin with it and this should take out the sting.

Oven Cleaner

Combine 3 teaspoons of Borax, one quarter cup of vinegar, one eighth teaspoon of liquid dish soap and 2 Cups of hot water in a bottle and shake to mix.  Spray mixture over the entire oven surface generously.

Shake generous amounts of baking soda over mixture and then spray again with vinegar liquid.  Let it set overnight and wipe out with damp cloth the next day. Wipe with hot water to get the entire mixture removed.

Moss Removal

If your outdoor walk or roof is getting slippery with moss, scrub with vinegar and a scrub brush. This should remove the moss entirely.
